Having been a senior business manager and stakeholder for many years, I have held the belief that business management is nothing more than applied common sense. I’ve applied this to great effect and created many simple solutions to complex problems.
Coming from both a commercial & finance background, compliance has been a subject matter that has evolved during my career at an astounding rate. I sat at my desk in 1997 reading the first guidelines issued by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) regarding loans and mortgages. Ten years on, the Financial Services Authority (FSA) had evolved from the OFT and a few years later the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) had evolved from the FSA. As a result of this progressive approach to compliance we now have a whole industry that has arisen from the need to comply. The reason being there are now highly structured and define rules and regulation, the term guidelines has become a thing of the past.
The belief that effective communication is the key to solving all issues in an organisation is manifested by simplicity, as this is the key to understanding, regulatory terminology holds many people back from understanding, yet terminology can always be reduced and adapted to understandable forms.
